Become a Volunteer with the Montana Snowbowl Ski Patrol
Love skiing or snowboarding? Passionate about helping others in the mountains? The Montana Snowbowl Volunteer Ski Patrol is looking for committed, community-minded individuals to join our team. Whether you’re an experienced EMT or just getting started in outdoor rescue, there’s a path for you to serve on the slopes.
HOW DO I START?
The first step is simply letting us know you’re interested—this helps get you on our radar as a potential future patroller. From there, you can begin working toward becoming an official candidate.

How to Become a Candidate
Becoming a candidate with the Montana Snowbowl Volunteer Ski Patrol involves a few key steps:
Apply to Become a Candidate

Stop one of us up on the mountain and ask us about patrolling.

Join a “Ski With The Patrol Day” (twice each season)

Complete our online application form.

Attend an Informational Meeting.  These meeting dates are provided to our list of interested candidates.

What is a “Candidate”?
A candidate is someone training to become a full patroller. Here’s what to expect:

You’ll train on-mountain in a patrol-issued vest (no lift ticket required during training)

Weekend-only participation unless approved by the Weekday Patrol Director ​

You must provide your own skis or snowboard

*Costs are approximate and change annually based on NSP fee changes and costs to run an OEC Class. Candidates will be notified of costs closer to the start of the OEC Class.

Expectations of Patrollers
To serve with the Montana Snowbowl Volunteer Ski Patrol, you’ll need to:
Bring a positive attitude and teamwork mindset
Commit to 8–12 patrol days per season (December–April)
Maintain your certifications annually:

Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC)

CPR Refresher

On-hill skills: Toboggan handling & lift evac
Participate in our annual fundraiser:
